side structures are accessible without endangering the safety of equipment and
• operators or inducing unwarranted environmental impacts, the road-side
structures (as well as drainage structures and other sedimentation related
items not associated with roads) will be inspected and a detailed schedule
developed for spring maintenance. The schedule will be retained at the mine
and made available for review by the regulatory authority. Maintenance will
be implemented in accordance with the schedule and any modifications
recommended by the regulatory authority. In general, spring maintenance will
be performed in the following order: 1) ditches and culverts along haulroads
and access roads whose drainage does not pass through a sedimentation pond
prior to leaving the permit area, 2) ditches and culverts along haulroads and
access roads whose drainage does pass through a sedimentation pond prior to
leaving the permit area (including drainage structures and other sedimentation
related items not associated with roads), and 3) light use road drainage
structures. The deferment of road-side drainage maintenance associated with
the light use road (only one light use road currently exists) is considered to
have the least potential environmental impact since this road is used
primarily by water trucks during the summer months for dust suppression
purposes. Variances to the general order of the schedule may be necessary
• depending upon site conditions (ie., priority will be given to those
structures or items needing the most immediate attention regardless of the
disposition of the drainage.
Due to steepness of the terrain, narrowness of the available roadway
corridor width, and hardness of the exposed rock outcropping on the hillside
along some portions of the Goat Trail, triangular ditches as described above
are not possible to be constructed. Therefore, an alternate drainage control
plan is provided for the Goat Trail in Appendix 3.s-F.
3.5.5 ROAD MAINTENANCE
Raul and access road maintenance is performed routinely. Maintenance of
roads will be accomplished by a motor grader in most cases. Road ditches will
be cleaned and reshaped, with care be'nq taken not to obstruct culverts. The
actual road surface will be recrowned and reshaped at time of road
maintenance. water will be applied when necessary, except during winter, to
haulroads during this process to assure proper compaction and reduce dust.
•
3.5-Sk May 14,1993
