Revised 1/11/80
• Section 780.21(b) Continued.
can be quickly corrected by the prompt installation of a
single or a series of check dams. These dams will be
small, in all cases less than 10 feet in height, and usu-
ally about five feet in height. They will be constructed
to cause no hazards to public health, safety and the en-
vironment and will be removed and reclaimed when no
longer needed in accordance with the plan set forth under
Section 780.18.
As stated on page 780-151, such auxiliary sediment and
control measures as small check dams will be used to con-
• trol small, local erosion problems. Given the rapidity
with which small erosional problems can develop, prompt
installation is required. In most cases, this would
amount to a few yards of dirt pushed up by a bulldozer.
It is stressed that in no way are these small check dams
needed for final, overall sediment and drainage control.
The sedimentation ponds are designed to meet the perform-
ance standards without any check dams.
Installation of check dams is not specifically required
by the regulations and was mentioned to demonstrate EFC's
•
780-151(c)
