These dams will be <br />small, in all cases less than 10 feet in height, and usu- <br />ally about five feet in height. They will be constructed <br />to cause no hazards to public health, safety and the en- <br />vironment and will be removed and reclaimed when no <br />longer needed in accordance with the plan set forth under <br />Section 780.18. <br />As stated on page 780-151, such auxiliary sediment and <br />control measures as small check dams will be used to con- <br />• trol small, local erosion problems. Given the rapidity <br />with which small erosional problems can develop, prompt <br />installation is required. In most cases, this would <br />amount to a few yards of dirt pushed up by a bulldozer. <br />It is stressed that in no way are these small check dams <br />needed for final, overall sediment and drainage control. <br />The sedimentation ponds are designed to meet the perform- <br />ance standards without any check dams. <br />Installation of check dams is not specifically required <br />by the regulations and was mentioned to demonstrate EFC's <br />• <br />780-151(c) <br />
