Seed Bed Preparation
Prior to reseeding, areas disturbed by the operation will be disced, or similarly
worked, in order to provide for an adequate seed bed. Chemical fertilizer wilt be
worked into the soil at the time of the seed bed preparation.
Seed Mixture and Seeding Rates
Seeding will be carried out during the first spring following replacement of
topsoil. The proposed seed mixture for seeding disturbed areas consists of a diverse
mixture of grasses. The proposed mixture appears below. A Truax-type of range drill
will be used for seeding disturbed areas. Where a seed drill cannot be used the
seeding rate appearing below will be doubled and broadcast. The seed will then be
covered by mechanical methods in attempt to give approximately 0.5 to 0.75 inch of
cover.
RECLAMATION SEED MIXTURE
Drilled Rate
Grass Species °1° of Mix Pounds PLS/Ac.
Big Bluestem 25 1.4
Yellow Indiangrass 25 1.3
Switchgrass 25 0.6
Sideoats Grama' 5 0.2
Western Wheatgrass 5 0.4
Prairie Sandreed 15 0.5
Total 100 4.4
Blue grama may be substituted for Sideoats grama
at a rate of 4.0 pounds per acre, PLS.
-8-
