SAFETY PROCEDURE FOR INSTALLING TEMPORARY SUPPORT (Cont..) <br />• i. Before any person proceeds inby permanently supported <br /> roof to install temporary supports, thorouoh visual <br /> examination of the unsupported roof and ribs shall be <br /> made. If the visual examination does not aisclose <br /> any hazardous condition, persons proceeding inby per- <br /> manent supports shall do so with Caution, and shall <br /> be within 5 feet of a temporary support or permanent <br /> support, and shall test the roof by the sound and vi- <br /> bration method as they advance into the area. <br /> 8. When installing permanent supports, temporary supports may <br /> be repositioned if it is necessary to remove temporary <br /> supports before permanent supports are installed. Such <br /> temporary Supports shall be removea by some remote means, <br /> or another temporary supoort shall be installed in such a <br /> manner that the workman removing the support rer~ains in a <br /> supported area. <br /> 5. Work such as extending line curtains or other ventilation <br /> devices, making methane tests, or repairing mining equip- <br /> ment inby the roof bolts shall not be done unless a mini- <br /> mum of two temporary supports are installer. This minimum <br /> is applicable only if the; are within 5 feet of the face <br /> or rib and the work is done between such supports and the <br /> nearest face or rib. ]f work must be performed further <br /> than 5 feet from the face or rib, at least two rows of <br /> temporary supports on nct more than 5 foot centers will be <br /> installed with all work oeino performed between such sup- <br /> ports.
