SAFETY PROCEDURE FOR INSTALLING TEMPORARY SUPPORT contd. <br />travel over the fallen material, to clean it up, or to perform other du- <br />ties, [he roof will be supported adequately. <br />a) A certified company official will supervise the w rk, unless the <br />workmen are specially trained to do such w rk. <br />b) An ATS system will be used [o support [he fall area when available <br />and applicable. Otherwise, adequate temporary support, (jacks or <br />timbers) on not more than five-foot centers will be set at the edge <br />of the fall where wutk is to be started and advanced as work pro- <br />gresses. <br />c) Temporary support mentioned above shall be replaced by perm an en[ <br />supports (roof bolts and/or posts) and advanced as clean-up work <br />progresses. <br />d) Permanent bolting or timbering will proceed from permanently sup- <br />ported roof to the temporary supports before other work is performed <br />except clean-up work necessary for the proper installation of the <br />permanent supports. <br />e) 1.'here necessary to load material before support can be set, such <br />loading will be done from areas of permanent support with the opera- <br />tor and other persons in the area under supported roof a[ all <br />times. <br />f) iJhere feasible, permanent supports will be placed in the fall area <br />before loading starts. <br />g) A written plan containing the procedures to be followed in the event <br />of a roof fall will be devised by management and posted at the scene <br />of the roof fall. <br />h) All roof falls in active areas, that are no[ to be cleaned up shall <br />be posted off at each entrance to the area by at least one (1) row <br />of posts (or the equivalent) installed on not more than 5-foot cen- , <br />tern across the opening end "DANGER" signs placed at all entrances <br />into the fall area.
