SAFETY PROCEDURE FOR INSTALLING TEMPORARY SUPPORT <br />. 1. Only persons engaged in installing temporary support will be allowed to <br />proceed beyond the last permanent support until such temporary supports <br />are installed. <br />2. e) Timber posts or props used as temporary or permanent support will be <br />installed tight on solid footing, and at least one, but not more <br />than tw , wooden wedges will be used to install a post. <br />b) Posts installed under roof that is cracked, broken, or susceptible <br />to sloughing shall have a wooden cap block, plank, or crossbar be- <br />tween [he post and the roof. <br />3. All metal jacks will be installed with a cap block between [he jack and <br />the roof unless a bearing plate (of not less than 36 square inches) is <br />provided. <br />4, kfiere loose material is being taken down, a minimum of two temporary sup- <br />ports on not more than five-foot centers will be installed between the <br />workmen and the material being taken down unless such work can be done <br />from an area adequately supported by permanent roof supports. <br />5. Where bolts are being replaced in isolated instances (such as where equip- <br />ment has knocked bolts loose) and the location is greater than five feet <br />from a face, rib, ar another bolt, one temporary support shall be in- <br />stalled within a radius of 2 feet from each bolt [o be replaced. <br />6, Where crossbars or roof bolts are being installed in en area were roof <br />failure is indicated, a minimum of one row of temporary supports shall be <br />installed on not more than 5-foot centers across the place, unless the ATS <br />System is deployed, so [hat the work in progress is done between the in- <br />stalled temporary supports and adeouate permanent supports in sound roof. <br />7, Mfi ere falls have occurred and at all overcasts and other construction <br />sites that require removal of mine roof material, the roof will be consid- <br />eyed unsupported, If persons are required to enter such areas, either [o <br />Page Ten <br />Initial 11/01/86 <br />
