In the control area, shrubs and grasses again had biomasses of about 46% each. The <br />• dominant shrubs were the same as in the affected area. <br />Stem Density Dafa <br />A summary of stem density data is presented in Table 2.4-28. In the affected <br />areas, Mountain Shrub had the highest average stem density with 28,657 stems/ha. In <br />the control areas, Mountain Shrub again hod the highest density with 33,230 <br />stems/ha. The lowest stem density was in the Subirrigated Shrub with 10,671 <br />stems/ha. Tables 2.4-29 through 2.4-36 give a detailed listing of stem density by <br />species for the various vegetation Types sampled. <br />2.4.3 MINING AND RECLAMATION INFORMATION <br />2.4.3.1 Salient Vegetation Features <br />Several plant species which are known for their weediness were encountered. <br />Noxious species included Agropyron repens, Cirsium arvense, Plantago lanceolate <br />• Rumex crispus, Stellaria longifolia, Thlaspi arvense. <br />Plant species whose growth and reproduction cause economic loss included <br />Achilles lanulosa, Allium acuminatum, Apocynum cannabinum, Argentina anserina, <br />Astragalus bisulcatus, Astragalus miser, Bromus tectorum, Capsella bursa-pastoris, <br />Chenopodium album, Chrysothamm~us naseosus, Conringia orientalis, Cynoglossum <br />officinale, Delphinium occidenTale, Descurainia sophia, Equisetum arvense, Grindelia <br />squarrosa, Hackelia floribunda, Hordeum usillum, Melva ne lecta, Medicago lu ulina, <br />Phalaris orlindinacea, Plantago major, Prunella vul arts, Tragopogon dubius, Urtica <br />diocia racilis, and Wyethia amplexicaulis. <br />Plants which have attributes enabling them to become easily established in areas <br />of environmental disturbance included Arrhenatherum elatius, Festuca pratensis, <br />Phleum rap tense, Potentilla norvegica, Trifolium hybridum, Trifolium ratense, <br />Trifolium repens, Triticum oestivum, and Veronica biloba. <br />Astragalus bisulcatus was the only selenium indicator species encountered. <br />No endangered or threatened species were encountered. <br />Plant species that produce substances of high toxicity and are the cause of the <br />majority of livestock losses included Monkshood (Aconitum columbianum), Two- <br />grooved Locoweed (Astragalus bisulcatus), Weedy Milkvetch (Astragalus Miser), and <br />Duncecap Larkspur (Delphinium occidentale). <br />Revised 7-81 2.4-8 <br />
