9. In the event that a senior water right is activated on Sage Creek such that
water is not available for storage in Pond Y-I during the non-irrigation season,
Peabody will haul water to Pond Y-I or to points along Sage Creek designated
by the Water Commissioner from Wadge Pit Reservoir. Such water will be
released directly to Sage Creek or from Pond Y-I in the same manner as
described in Item 8.
10. Up to 50 acre-feet of water is available to Peabody in Stagecoach Reservoir
under a contract with the Upper Yampa Water Conservancy District. Such
water will be released from Stagecoach Reservoir to replace Peabody`s out-of-
priority depletions with respect to senior priorities on the Yampa River during
the non-irrigation season. Components include water used to replace out-of-
priority storage in Pond 006 and Pond Y-I, historica{ return flows from
irrigation of 20 acres under the J.C. Temple Ditch No. I, and depletions to
Sage Creek streamflow caused by Well No. I pumpage.
CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
I. Peabody Coal Company will begin operation of the Seneca II-W Mine in 1990
and coal will be extracted through 2004. The domestic water demands will be
about I.0 acre-foot per year. Industrial water demands, primarily for dust
suppression, will be about 25.0 acre-feet per year.
2. We11 No. I will be completed in the Trout Creek Sandstone formation. It will
provide the domestic water supplies and will supplement the industrial water
supplies. Pond 006 will collect surface runoff and the discharge from the mine
pits and will regulate such water for industrial use, decantation, and flood
retention.
3. The consumptive use of the water used for domestic purposes will be about
10 percent of the water demand or 0. I acre-foot per year. The water used for
industrial purposes will be completely consumed. Evaporation from Pond 006
is estimated to be about 3.78 acre-feet per year. The total consumptive use
for this project, therefore, will be about 28,88 acre-feet per year.
4. Pumpage from Well No. I probably will not reduce streamflows in Dry Creek.
streamflow depletion caused by Well No. I in the Grassy Creek, Fish Creek,
Trout Creek, Middle Creek and Yampa River probably will be less than 0.061
16
