analysis. The filter cake was rinsed with 250 grams of fresh
water per 1000 grams of solids. The washed concentrate solids
were recombined with the flotation tails and packaged for
shipment to the engineering consultant's laboratory.
1
D.6.2.1 Geotechnical Characteristics

A geotechnical laboratory testing program
consisting principally of classification type testing
t has been completed on the tailings. The results of this
testing program are included in Appendix D. The tailings
contain approximately 20 percent by weight ~~f fine sand-
sized particles with the remainder classifying as silt.
' The tailings are non-plastic and have a specific gravity
ranging from 2.13 to 2.77. A direct shear test conducted
on the tailings revealed an internal effective stress
friction angle of approximately 39 degrees.
t D.6.2.2 Geochemical Characteristics
The geochemical testing program for the tailings
consists of the following test series:
1. Acidification/neutralization p~~tentials;
2. Leachability;
3. EP toxicity; and
4. Humidity cell testing.
Three different tailings samples were tested;
' tailings liquid, tailings solids, and tailings solids,
which had been rinsed to a stable pH as Dart of the
' sample preparation. The rinsing was done to try to
eliminate any influences of pH altering chemicals used
in the milling process.
' D-36 (Revised 4/20/89)
