t D.6 Tailings Disoosal
D.6.1 General
' The mill tailings will be drum-filtered or cycloned and
screened to produce a moisture content of approximately 22
' percent in the mill. The dewatered tailings will then be
transported by truck to the south waste rockJtailings disposal
' area for disposal on the upstream face of the waste rock
t
i
b
d
d
re
a
ning
erms, as
escribe
in Section D.3. The tailings will
be deposited in a relatively thin layer on the face of the
' waste rock berm, which will then be covered by an end-dumped
layer of waste rock. It is anticipated that the tailings and
waste rack layering will continue in this manner and produce
an estimated disposal ratio of approximately 1:1 in the
' combined disposal area.
D.6.2 Material Characteristics

Tailings material generated as part of small scale mill
processing of San Luis ore at Battle Mountain Gold Company's
Battle Mountain, Nevada laboratory were tested to determine

1 geotechnical and geochemical characteristics. The sample was
processed as described in the following paragrapn.
' The sample was ground to 80 percent passing 250 microns
in the presence of 0.15 pounds of potassium amyl .~anthate per
' ton of ore. The ground sample was floated for approximately
five minutes using 0.05 pounds of glycol per ton of ore to
maintain a stable froth bed. The flotation tails were filtered.
The flotation concentrate was ground to 80 percent passing 75
microns. The concentrate slurry was adjusted to pH 11 with Type
3 Portland cement. Sodium cyanide was added at the rate of
eight pounds per ton of concentrate. The concentrate was
leached for 48 hours at ambient temperature. The concentrate
slurry was filtered and the filtrate was re<:overed for
1
D-35 (Revised 4/20/89)
