C~
C~
• DIVISION OF MINERALS & GEOLOGY BOARD PERMIT APPLIC.4T1ON
REGULAR OPERATION (112)
PROJECT NAh1E: HOGUE/RIVER PIT
Page 3
EXHIBIT D - MINING PLAN
2. Initial project dewatering will commence at the east side
of the project at the existing pond area. Due to the high
water table in this area, dewatering will be required for
efficient mining operations and procedures. Dewatering
will commence after topsoil and overburden have been
removed. Initially a trench and sump station (electric
submersible pumps) will be employed at the south boundaries
of the excavated area. A settlement pond will be
constructed along the south boundaries of the excavation
and the water from the trench and sump system will be
pumped into this pond. A11 dewatering shall be directed to
the settlement pond before allowing it to egress back to
the river. A Colorado Department of Water Quality permit
is being applied for the discharge points to the river.
Some dewatering discharge may be directed to the Hogue
Ranch irrigation system if conditions warrant.
• Dewatering prior to mining will lower the water table in
the mining area and also dewater the gravel in its
undisturbed natural state. By minimizing disturbance of
the gravels prior to dewatering, we will be pumping mostly
clean water to the settling pond, therefore minimizing
excess mud and silt accumulations in the settling pond. By
dewatering in situ, we will utilize the natural seams in
the gravel to dewater itself.
Utilization of this method of dewatering procedure will
also benefit the crushing and screening operations.
Materials will not have to be stockpiled and allowed to
drain prior to processing. This will substantially reduce
mud and silt accumulations that would result from stock-
piling water laden materials. Because the gravel seams
will be virtually undisturbed, excavation operations will
benefit. Gravels can be separated more efficiently during
the excavation process, resulting in more efficient
crushing and screening operations.
Once a sufficient pit excavation has been initiated,
pumping may have to be increased, depending on flows, to
pump water out of the excavation. However, by placing the
settling pond between the river and the excavation, we
anticipate intercepting the biggest source of water (from
• the river) by the sump-interceptor trench method to mini-
mize water accumulation in the pit excavation area.
Duckels Construction, Inc. dba Yampa Aggregates
41230 Routt County Rd. #129, Steamboat Springs, Colorado 80487
