73
Correlations with other sites: similar to Type 3 at Pictograph Cave
I (Mulloy 1958:33, Fig. 6, Item 12), and to a specimen from Level I
at Signal Butte (Strong 1935).
Projectile points: non-stemmed, flat base, Type IB. One speClmen (Fig. 7g).
Description: elongated triangular outline, with the length much great-
er than the width. There is basal thinning and triangular cross section.
I.laterial: quartzite.
Size range: length, 32 mm.; width, 13 mm.; and thickness, 3 mm.
Special notes: the basal margin is not perpendicular to the long axis,
giving a slightly asymmetric silhouette. There is no apparent modifica-
tion of the edges or basal margins.
Correlations with other sites: similar to Shaw Cave, in eastern Wyoming
(Jennings 1957:322, Fig. 116, Item jj)
Projectile points: parallel stemmed, Type II. One specimen (Fig. 7h ).
Description: upper margin of stem is perpendicular to long axis; sharp
lateral tang. The stem length is unequal, as tang is higher on one side
than the other. The base is incomplete, but there is slight evidence of
basal concavity. The outline is apparently triangular.
.Material: chert.
Size range: width, 23 mm.; and the thickness, 5 mm.
'7• Special notes: light grinding present on the stem; biconvex cross section.
Correlations with other sites: appears to be within the Duncan-Hanna
range (Strong 1935; Mulloy 1954; Wheeler 1952, 1954).
Projectile points: contracting stem, Type III. One specimen (Fig. 7j ).
Description: triangular silhouette made on a flake, and modified on only
one face. The tangs are almost perpendicular and quite sharp.
Material: quartzite.
Size range: length, 31 mm.; width, 21 mm.; and thickness, 5 mm.
~ Special notes: specimen in collection has a slightly off-center stem, as
one lateral notch is deeper than the other. The dorsal face exhibits a
marked ridge; there is no apparent edge modification.
Projectile points: expanding stem narrower than blade, flat base, sharp
oblique tang, Type IVA. h7Ve specimens (rig. 7k-o).
Description: triangular to slightly biconvex outline; the tang is steeply
to moderately inclined, relative to the long axis. The narrowest part of
the stem is roughly 50a of the total width, pressure flaked on both faces,
and has non-serrated edges.
I•laterial: chert.
Size range: length, 34-37 mm.; width, 13-17 mm.; and thickness, 3-4 mm.
