-14-
• excavations, when exposed to the air, they slough in small
fragments.
l
3.0 EXISTING GRAVEL ROAD
3.1 ALIGNDSENT
The alignment of the existing gravel road was apparently
chosen so that the construction of any larger fills be avoided
and that the road be located mostly in cuts. A series of impor-
tant cuts has been excavated between the point where the gravel
road leaves Munger Creek valley and enters the valley of its
tributary. Except for possibly very minor fills at the crossing
• of several small gulches, the road is located entirely in cuts.
The material that was obtained during the excavation of
these cuts was hauled or pushed for a short distance and dumped
onto the steep valley side below the haul road.
As a result of the road construction only in the cuts,
the road has frequent curves of a very small radius.
3.2 GRAVEL ROAD CUTS
A series of 8 cuts has been excavated along the upper part
of the road. As it is shown on the geotechnical map, these cuts
were excavated ih different geotechnical units. The height of
• these cuts is significant and most of them were excavated at
fairly steep slopes.
