-13-
• Talus deposits are sandy and clayey soils with a large amount
of angular boulders, often several feet in diameter. Physical
properties of talus deposits soils were tested (sample No. 9).
Cliff_forming_sandstones were mapped mostly in the valley
--- - ----- -----
of the Munger Creek. They form significant ledges and cliffs
of sandstones that are clearly visible in the valley sides.
These cliffs are frequently several tens of feet or thicker;
their faces are vertical or subvertical. They indicate a high
resistance of sandstone against weathering, making it probably
the strongest rock of the formation, Sandstone ledges of a
limited thickness were mapped at numerous locations in the
valley of the Munger Creek tributary. They can be frequently
followed for long distances. They occur mostly on the slope
between the haul road and the valley bottom; some limited ledges
could be found in a steep slope above the cut No. 2.
Interbedded shales,_sandstones-and_siltstones were mapped
at several locations along the upper part of the road. The
most significant outcrop of this unit was found in cut No. 2.
Rocks encountered in the mine portal cut have a very similar
character. These rocks are typically slope-forming. They are
considerably softer than the previous unit of cliff-forming
sandstones. Layers of sandstone within this unit are of a
limited thickness and they are mostly densely jointed and weath-
ered close to the surface. Shales and coal, that belong in this
• unit are usually soft; they weather easily, and in artificial
