MAP UNIT SpD-RL: SPLITRO-ROCKLAtJD, 15 TO 30 PERCENT SLOPE
•
These shallow, well to somewhat excessively drained, loamy soils and rock out-
croppings occur on steep to extremely steep mid- and upper-slopes. This soil forms
in sandstone residuum. This mapping unit occurs in Section 14, T.SN R.86W at 6,700
to 7,000 feet elevation.
Within this mapping unit are extensive areas of rock outcrops, with sandstone
being the predominate rock type. Shales are exposed to the surface in small areas.
Inclusions make up about 25 percent of the map unit.
Soil profiles in this mapping unit are similar to Splitro-Rockland at 8 to 15
percent slope.
Vegetation is Artemisia tridentate big sage, and is more sparse and less
productive than other Splitro mapping units.
Permeability is moderately rapid. Water erosion hazard is moderate. Depth to
ground water is greater than S feet. Effective rooting depth is about 17 inches.
Stoniness class is 4.
Land capability unit is Vlle.
• MAP UNIT SpE-RL: SPLITRO-ROCKLAND, 30 TO 65 PERCENT SLOPE
This shallow, somewhat excessively drained soil occurs on steep to very steep
sloping mountain sideslopes and ridge crests. It is formed in sandstone residuum.
This mapping unit occurs in Section 12, T.SN R.86W at 6,800 to 7,000 feet elevation.
Typically, this mapping unit has a lithic contact between 16 and 20 inches of the
surface. Included in this mapping unit are rocklands, sandstone outcroppings, and a
Typic Cryoboroll of the loamy-skeletal family. Inclusions make up about 25 percent
of the map unit.
Permeability is moderately rapid. Water erosion hazard is moderate. Depth to
ground water is greater than 5 feet. Effective rooting depth is about 17 inches.
Stoniness class is 4.
Land capability unit is Vllle.
MAP UNIT SpF-RL: SPLITRO-ROCKLAND, GREATER THAN 65 PERCENT
SLOPE
•
This shallow, somewhat excessively drained soil occurs on very steep sloping
mountain side-slopes. It is formed in sandstone residuum. This mapping unit occurs
in the east I/4 Section 19, T.SN R.85W on east facing slopes at 6,800 to 7,500 feet
2.3-16
