description, Handran stony loam, profile /t05-03-10-034. Small inclusions of rockland
• and rock outcrops occur on the steeper slopes.
Presently this soil is used for rangeland. Vegetation is sparce due to steepness
of slope and outcropping. It will erode severely if vegetative cover is lost.
Permeability is rapid. Ground water is at about 5 feet. Erosion hazard is high
from wind, moderate from water. Stoniness class is 3. Effective rooting depth is
about 25 inches.
Land capability unit is Vlle.
MAP UNIT DL: DISTURBED LAND
All lands which have been disturbed by man to the degree that parameters
normally untilized for soil classification are significantly absent or distorted that
classification of the soil is not possible. This unit is usually characterized by severe
reduction or absence of vegetative cover.
This mapping unit is extensive in the center ridge area Section 13 and 24, T.SN
R.86W, and the newly reclaimed areas south and west of Section 30 at 6,600 to 7,700
• feet elevation.
No mapping units are described; no pedons were located or sampled.
MAP UNIT MoD: MORD LOAM, IS TO 30 PERCENT SLOPE
This moderately deep to deep, well-drained, fine textured soil is formed in
sandstone and shales. This mapping unit occurs on moderately steep upland slopes
and ridges in Section 19, T.SN R.85W at 7,000 to 7,350 feet elevation.
The soil profile of this mapping unit does not vary significantly in horizonation
and geomorphology as reported for the series description, Mord loam, pedonl/ 05-02-
16-092.
Portions of this mapping unit exhibit an eroded pedon. Here the AI horizon is
very thin and the argillic horizon consequently is closer to the surface. Typically,
the soil profile in this mapping unit is as described as the series description (See
above).
The morphology of the soil indicates that it may previously have supported
coniferous vegetation. Present vegetation is highly productive Quercus gambellii
• gambels oak, Artemisia tridentata big sage and Chrysothamnus ssp. rabbit brush.
This soil is used exclusively for livestock grazing and wildlife habitat.
2.3-II
