Permeability is moderate. Erosion hazard is moderate from wind and water.
• Effective rooting depth is about 30 inches. Depth to water table is greater than S
feet. Stoniness class is 2 or 3.
Land capability unit is Vlle.
MAP UNIT SkA: SKYLICK LOAM, 0 TO 2 PERCENT SLOPE
This deep, well-drained, fine textured soil occurs on level to nearly level slopes
and on alluvial terraces. This soil occurs in Section 12 and 14, T.4N R.85W, west
of Trout Creek at 6,700 to 7,100 feet elevation.
Typically, this soil profile has the following differences compared to the series
description. This soil hos about a 7 to 10 inch plow layer, or Ap horizon. In the
irrigated phases, the horizons exhibit distinct to prominent mottling and brown to
grayish brown colors. The substratum may have an increase in coarse fractions and
very fine sands, due to proximity of streams.
Presently this land is used for livestock grazing or the cultivation of irrigated
hay. Vegetation includes various short grass species and Cirsium arvense Canadian
thistle.
• Permeability is slow. Water erosion hazard is high. Depth to ground water
varies with proximity of streams, but normally is greater than 5 feet. Effective
rooting is about 50 inches. Stoniness is class 0.
Land capability unit is Vle.
MAP UNIT SkB: SKYLICK LOAM, 2 TO 8 PERCENT SLOPE
This deep, well-drained, fine textured soil occurs on gently sloping alluvial
terraces and mid-slopes.
