Phase IV Weekly Summary No. 44 Page 3 003-2203
known underground workings UG-257, UG-258, UG-270, UG-289, UG-498, UG-499, UG-500, and
UG-504.
Ames began blast drilling of underground workings within Phase Nc at UG-234a. Ames blasted
underground workings at UG-234a delineated by confirmation drilling on December 18a' at 16:30.
Ames continued placement of SF in Phase IVc at the saddle berm. Ames placed SF borrowed from
slope recontouring in Phase Nc near UG-234a. SF materials were placed in horizontal lifts typically
not exceeding 2 feet in loose thickness. A Caterpillaz CS563C roller provided compactive effort, while a
Caterpillaz water wagon provided moisture conditioning when needed or required. SF was also used to
backfill shallow workings UG-501 and UG-520.
(See Attachment A for approximate construction locations for all Phase IV azeas.)
Field Monitoring and Testing Activities
Golder observed construction activities associated with Phase IV earthworks. All construction
materials and soil materials were verified as suitable, and construction methods were in accordance
with project specifications. Removal of oversized and deleterious material from all fill azeas was
observed. Golder conducted temperature measurements of fill material prior to placement. No fill
was placed until fill temperatures met the requirements of the specifications.
Golder observed clearing and grubbing within the Phase N area. All available topsoil was removed
and deleterious material hauled to Upper Arequa Gulch.
Golder observed removal of old HWY 67 pavement. Pavement was hauled to Upper Arequa Gulch.
Golder observed construction of the 84-inch culvert at the south end of the Permanent Diversion
Channel. Golder observed that the material placed (CSP and Pipe Bedding Fill) met the
requirements of the specifications.
Golder observed placement of SF, SSF, and CSB. These materials were placed in accordance with
the drawings and specifications into excavated or open underground workings. Golder obtained
samples of SF, SSF, and CSB for laboratory testing. Materials supplied met specifications.
Golder observed and documented excavation and remediation activities associated with the Phase IV
underground working construction. Full time monitoring was given to excavation of underground
workings.
Golder observed and documented confirmation drilling activities associated with the Phase IV
construction. Full time monitoring was given to confirmation drilling of underground workings
including logging holes, mazking drill locations, surveying holes, and documenting underground
workings encountered.
rn~,~ rv. a ~~-,~,~ ~~ Golder Associates Inc.
