Exhibit G -Water Resources
Surface Water
Mining is expected to have minimal impact on the prevailing hydrologic
balance. The site lies on terrace formed by the historic occupation of the
Uncompahgre River. However, the area to be mined now lies several hundred
west of the river at its closest approach. No mining will occur in the
active stream channel.
The surface slope of the permit area is minimal, averaging less than
one percent. Runoff fran the affected area is limited to periods of
snowmelt and surtmer storms and occurs as overland flow. However, runoff
velocity is very low due to the gentle surface slope. Most of the storm
water occurring on site will be confined within the permit area and drain
to the pond as described below in a seperate section.
Irrigation Ditches
Earthen irrigation ditches occur on site as illustrated on the Exhibit
C map. These ditches terminate on site and will simply be rerouted or
eliminated as necessary in order to accomiadate the mining operation.
Ground Water
Ground water is encountered at a depth of about three to four feet
below the ground surface, but varies same depending on specific location on
site and seasonal variations. As discussed in Exhibit D, the site will be
wet mined and is expected to have minimal irt@act on the groundwater system,
Stormwater Control
There will be no stormwater discharge from disturbed areas. As such,
a stormwater permit from the Colorado Department of Health, Water Quality
Control Division, is not required. Most of the stormwater runoff from the
-12-
