EXHIBIT L -Reclamation Costs
Cost Estimate for Reclamation
The Schumacher Pit #3 is 31.7 acres.
1) The area of excavation will be graded and sloped as it is mined. Past experience
has shown that mining close to slopes required upon reclamation is the easiest and
most affordable method.
2) Topsoil will be re-applied to the excavations.
3) The slopes will be fertilized with fertilizer or barnyard manure as indicated by soil
tests and then seeded with a cover crop.
4) After the cover crop is established, the grass will be planted as recommended by
the local Natural Resource Conservation Service. The cost units provided include
labor and fuel. The cover crop, manuring, and grass seeding cost were obtained
from the Natural Resource Conservation Service and have been based on
Conservation Reserve Program costs.
5) The other unit costs were obtained from a consultation with two local contractors
who perform this type of work day in and day out in eastem Colorado. They are
both equipped to perform reclamation if Mr. Schumacher were to default on the
reclamation plan.
6) The estimate, as presented, is realistic for the reclamation of this size pit in eastem
Colorado.
