• and 8, Soil Profile Descriptions and Soil Mapping IInit Descriptions,
respectively. The mapping of these areas was done by the IISDA Soil
Conservation Service with an Order 3 sampling intensity.
Mottling of the soils in the root zone is a characeriatic of
subirrigation which is identified in standard SCS soil descriptions.
The Yampa (12A) and IInnamed 30 (30A) soil types are described as
being mottled from the surface horizon down to the water table. All
three of the soils are described as having been formed in mined
alluvium.
From these descriptions of mottling in the root zone of Yampa
(129) and IInnamed 30 (30A), it can be concluded that at certain
times of the year soil moisture is high enough to saturate the root
zone.
Vegetation
The drainages of Foidel, Middle, and Fish Creeks were surveyed
for vegetation Cype, density, and diversity. Nebraska sedge and
• other unidentified species in the genera Caren contribute 82.2X of
the community while bluegrass, meadow foatail, smooth brume,
2.06-18
