channels were mapped using the geomorphic criteria of slope breaks,
where the essentially flat-lying stream laid depostis meet the
sloping valley walls. Terraces are included in the floodplain
deposits. Areas where unconsolidated deposits have been removed by
erosion do not meet the applicable geomorphic criteria. An example
of this exclusion is where Foidel Creek passes through a watergap
formed by the Twentymile Sandstone formation just vest of USGS
Gaging Station 09243900, in Section 14, Towship 5 North, Range 86
West as show on Map 4, Mine No. 3 Hydrology.
Unconsolidated stream-laid deposits in the proposed permit and
adjacent area were mapped in detail by field checking the surficial
geology and digging backhoe pits to determine the lithology of the
stream-laid deposits. In addition, the low-lying areas which
contain alluvial deposits were field checked to verify the existence
or non-ezistence of stream channels 3.0 feet wide and 0.5 feet deep,
which meet the definition of "unconsolidated stream-laid deposits
holding streams" in Rule 1.04. Stream-laid deposits were found in
one of the ephemeral drainages in the proposed permit and adjacent
area in Section 13, Township 5 North, Bange 86 West; however, these
drainages do not contain stream channels meeting the size criteria
of the above definition. Consequently, alluvial deposits in the
ephemeral drainages were not mapped in the intermitent and perennial
drainages traversing the proposed permit and adjacent area. Aa
show on Map 4, Mine Na. 3 Hydrology, the intermittent drainages are
Foidel and Middle Creeks. The perennial streams in the general area
are Fish and Trout Creeks.
2.06-14
