• Exhibit I
Soil Information
There has been considerable soil disturbance over!the permit
area over the past 30 years. This 30-year mining history has
left the area of Phase I virtually without any of its A horizon.
The area of Phase II has also had a good portion of it~ A horizon
destroyed. Due to the cobbly and bouldery nature of }he surface
the present A horizon ranges from 0 to approximately 4 inches.
The B horizon is not developed and the remainder of~the uncon-
solidated material is of the C horizon.
It is this eluvium which comprises the C horizon which is
being mined. The C horizon ranges from 0 to over ~0 feet in
• thickness. Its estimated average thickness is approximately 5
feet.
The weathering of the parent material to the ~luvium has
been without any significant glacial or fluvial infl~ence. The
material ranges from 4 foot boulders to clays and ~ilts. The
rocks are angular and to not show any sorting.
A more comprehensive soil survey will be made in ~.ugust 1985
•
if the commission deems it essential.
20
