• 3.2 TOPSOIL REMOVAL AND STORAGE
See section 2.2.5 for the topsoil to be removed for the waste rock disposal area.
No topsoil was salvaged from the existing disturbances. During the life of the
mine minor amounts of soil sloughed off of the haul road slopes. This soil has been
stored in the topsoil stockpile area; as well as, on the mine bench (Figure 2.2-1). This
material is not topsoil but the Operator was permitted to store the material in the topsoil
stockpile area because analysis indicated it was suitable for reconstructive material.
Since no actual topsoil was salvaged, this material is the same as the material
that will be exposed when the road and mine site area re-contoured. The material
exposed at the surface of the mine disturbances has proven the ability to support
vegetative growth. The Operator will use the material that is stored in the topsoil
stockpiles on the mine site area. The topsoil and top dressing material will be also be
used as top dressing in areas where excessive rock is exposed on the surface after re-
contouring.
n
LJ
3.2.1 Depths of Suitable Topsoil Available for Reclamation
See section 2.2.5 for the topsoil to be removed for the waste rock disposal area.
The depths of material available for reclamation at the Munger Canyon Mine are
listed in Table 3.3.1 by map unit. The table lists the map unit, components of the map
unit, percent of map unit, horizon depths and ratings, recommended depth of stripping
and restrictive features.
Eight map units occur in the Munger Canyon affected area. Of these, six are
recommended for salvage (Table 3.2-1), including Glendive sandy loam (salvage to 24
inches), Havre loam 0 to 6 percent slopes (salvage to 24 inches), Havre loam 2 to 8
percent slopes (salvage to 24 inches), Nihill loam 5 to 35 percent slopes (salvage to 18
inches), Rivra loam variant 0 to 8 percent slopes (salvage to 12 inches), and
Torriorthents 15 to 65 percent slopes (salvage to 6 to 18 inches as depths and slopes
permit). Units not recommended for salvage are Alluvial land (soils too thin and coarse)
and Rock Outcrop (soil mostly nonexistent).

3-4
08/03
Permit Rertewal
