The native <br />vegetation is r~inly midyr~cses and short grasses. The avecage annual <br />precipitatirn is about 13 to 15 inches. <br />'t'his unit is 25 percent Schamber very gravelly sandy lawn and 25 percent <br />Stoneham loam. Also in this unit is about 15 percent intergrading gravelly <br />soils. <br />Included in this unit are ;anall areas of Vona loamy sand, Eckley <br />gravelly sandy loam, and Yoder sandy loam. Tlie percentage varies Eras one <br />area to another. <br />The Schamber soil is deeE> and excessively drained. It Eorzned in sand <br />and gravel derived daninantly Fran the Oyallala Lornation. Slope is 6 to 35 <br />i~ercent. Typically, the surface layer is grayish brown very gravelly sandy <br />loam 3 inches thick. The subsurface is brown very gravelly sandy loam 7 <br />inches thick. The upper II inches of the substratum is pinkish gray very <br />gravelly loamy sand. 'Ihe 1o.er part is light gray very gravelly sand to a <br />depth of 60 inches or more. <br />Permeability of the Schamber soil is very rapid. Available water <br />~:apacity is low. Effective rootiny depth is 60 inches or more. 13snofE is <br />rapid, and the hazard of water erosion is moderate. 'Ihe hazard of soil <br />blowing is high. <br /> <br />i ~9 <br />
