}
• Renewable Resource Lands
Alluvial Valley Floor
The alluvial valley floors (AYFs) mapped in the permit end'ad~acent
areas are discussed in detail in Section 5.2.1 of this permit applica-
tion. Since the AVFs will not be undermined and are outside the area of
Influence from underground mining operations, they will be addressed in
no further detail in this subsidence section.
North Thompson Creek
North Thompson Creek lies along the northern boundary of the No. 1 Mine
• permit area and along the southern edge of the No. 3 Mine permit area.
North Thompson Creek is a snow-melt stream. It 1s dependent on the win-
ter snow pack for much of its annual flow. Runoff from storms also con-
tributes to stream flow and accounts for peak flow during the summer and
fall months. A detailed description of the surface hydrology 1n the
mine site area 1s presented in the hydrology sections of the permit ap-
plication (Sections 3.4.2.1 and 3.6.1.2).
North Thompson Creek 1s presently undermined by the main slopes and de-
velopment entries 1n the No. 1 Mine. The main slopes and development
entries provide access to the first longwall panel, Panel 1-1. Sufflcl-
ent coal has been left in place in these areas to prevent subsidence.

9
