The entire
depth of soil that is removed will be replaced on the reclaimed area.
b) The affected area is basically level; therefore, the Operator/Applicant does not anticipate
that the maximum gradient of the reclaimed slopes will exceed 3:1.
c) Revegetation of site:
i) The Operator/Applicant intends to move the soil from the next strip to be quarried
onto the strip being reclaimed in order to maximize the use of live native seed. It
is estimated that the entire approximate 36" of soil will be replaced.
ii) All necessary seeding, in addition to the live native seed, will take place during
the spring season to maximize seed getmination. To the extent additional soil
preparation is required after the soil is moved from the current strip to be quarried
to the strip to be reclaimed, the soil will be disced or raked. The seeding will be
accomplished in accordance with the weather, preferably early enough in the
season for sufficient moisture. The soil composition is sufficiently rich to make
fertilizer application unnecessary.
iii) In addition, the reclaimed area will be seeded with a pure live seed mixture of
Little Bluestem at 2 lbs./acre, Arizona Fescue at %z Ib./acre, Slender Wheatgrass
at 1 %z lbs./acre, Mountain Muhly at %z Ib./acre, Blue Grama at %z Ib./acre, Sheep
Fescue at %z lb./acre and Rye at 1 Ib./acre at a rate of 6.5 lbs./acre (double the rate
for seed drilling).
iv) The seed will be broadcast with a hand seeder and, if the seedbed is not
sufficiently roughened from the replacement of the soil, the seed will be raked.
v) No mulch should be needed in this relatively level, well-protected area. Weed
control will be accomplished in accordance with the attached Cooperative
Extension Service recommendations for noxious weeds common to the area
including Spotted and Diffuse Knapweed, Dalmation Toadflax, Canada Thistle
and Musk Thistle. Such weed control measures will allow the grasses an
opportunity to become established.
vi) The affected area does not presently contain any shrubs and/or trees, and none are
