(7) Growing media will be placed over areas to be revegetated in an even and uniform manner.
Fertilizer will be applied as rewmmended by the local N.RC.S. office (see Attachment E-1).
(8) Vegetative piles will be handled as stated under (ix)(2) immediately above.
(x) 3.1.10 Revegetation
(1) Larsen Colorado LLC will revegetate the pit floor and process area so as to establish a
diverse, effective, and long-lasting vegetative cover that will be capable of self-regeneration
without continued dependence on irrigation, soil amendments, or fertilizer and which will be at
]east equal in extent of cover to the pre-existing vegetation of the surrounding azea.
(2) Lazsen Colorado LLC will not reclaim any of the affected land to forest.
(3) Larsen Colorado LLC will reclaim the area to range. As stated in (2)(a) above:
(2) The following are components of the Reclamation Plan for the Byzantine Quarries
112 Operation:
(a) Reclamation will occur on all disturbed portions of the affected land. The pit
highwalls will be reclaimed to stable slopes and benches. The pit floors will be reclaimed
and revegetated to provide rangeland for cattle grazing.
The rangeland reclamation type was chosen because the Byzantine Quarries 112
• Operation is located within the boundaries of a working cattle ranch, and the revegetated
areas will be grazed by livestock when available. Revegetation of pit highwalls and
benches is not contemplated because 1) the benches and bench faces will be left in a
stable condition with minimal fines remaining on the benches (to reduce erosion), 2) the
benches will be inaccessible to cattle, and 3) the owner does not wish to provide an
attraction, such as vegetation, to livestock on the benches.
The post mining use of rangeland will be supported by revegetating the pit floors upon
completion of mining using the seed mixture provided by the N.R.C.S. Due to the
steepness of the pre-mining topography, the limited amount of growth medium on the
pre-mining slopes, and the potential for increased moisture available to vegetation on the
generally flat pit floor compared to the steep pre-mining topography; revegetating the pit
floor is anticipated to provide range productivity similar to the pre-mining productivity.
(4) Larsen Colorado LLC has consulted with the local N.R.C.S office and will follow the seeding
and horticultural recommendations of that office to ensure the highest probability of success in
plant establishment considering environmerna] factors, seed inoculation, and other pertinent
issues (see Attachment E-1).
(5) Larsen Colorado LLC will employ appropriate measures of site preparation to ensure the
establishment of a diverse and long-lasting vegetative cover.
•
