• (v) 3.1.5 Reclamation Measures -Materials Handling
(1) Grading will be carried on to provide stable benches and highwalls (in compliance with the
Geotechnical Evaluation presented in Attachment 6.5-1) and a generally level pit floor to support
revegetation to the final land use of rangeland.
(2) Backfilling is not part of the reclamaton plan.
(3) Topsoil will not be stripped from any area to be mined until the year that mining is scheduled
for that area to protect the affected lands from erosion. Likewise, vegetation will be left in place
to reduce erosion.
Grading will be done to direct all surface runoffto a sump or sumps located on previously mined
pit floors. Runoff from disturbed azeas will be retained within the affected lands. These sumps
will remain in place until after reclamation to ensure no long term siltation occurs to suttounding
areas from the affected land.
All highwalls will be stabilized when mining is completed. To insure stability, the slopes of all
highwalls will conform to the designs provided in the Geotechnical Stability Exhibit in Section
6.5 (Attachment 6.5-1). As shown on Map C-3, the slope of each bench (1.8H:1V) will conform
to the recommended overall slope of no greater than 1.6H:1 V as presented in the Geotechnical
Stability Exhibit.
• (4) Grading of benches and the pit floors will be done as soon as mining is completed, and
graded areas will be protected from further disturbance.
(5) All refuse (trash and discarded materials) will be collected, stored in appropriate containers,
hauled from the site, and disposed of in an appropriate and approved facility.
The primary commodities to be mined at the Byzantine Quarries 112 Operation will be limestone
and granite. No acid-forming or toxic producing materials are anticipated to be mined.
(6) All drill or auger holes will be properly plugged and abandoned. Note: blasting will be done
by an approved and licensed blasting contractor. No drill holes or auger boles aze anticipated to
remain after blasting.
No adits or shafts will be constructed at the Byzantine Quatties 112 Operation.
(7) Maximum overall slopes and slopes for individual benches shall comply with the designs
provided in the Geotechnical Stability Exhibit in Section 6.5. The Byzantine Quarries 112
Operation will be located on the lower flank of a sloping east-northeast facing ridge. The region
contains many rocky outcrops, and the exposed benches aze anticipated to be compatible with the
surrounding conditions. The Conditional use permit from Fremont County made the following
finding: 1. b) The location of the proposed use is compatible with other land uses in the area and
• does not place an undue burden on existing transportation, utilities, and service facilities in the
