3.1.6 General Requirements
None of the items mentioned apply [o this project.
3.1.7 Groundwater -Specific Requirements

As explained throughout the application, the excavation will encounter groundwater and a lake will
be the final plan of reclamation. A well permit and an augmentation plan are being prepazed by Kirk
Thompson of Argo Engineering, Inc. in Alamosa for approval by the State Engineer. These will be
submitted under separate cover for use in Exhibit "G" -Water information and will constitute the
specific groundwater requirements for this project.
3.1.8 Wildlife
(1) The operator will consider the safet,~ and protection of wildlife on site - if any.
No described critical periods or species are known for this site. The river corridor further south will
not be disturbed by this operation. The applicant's 2,300 plus acres ranch holdings around this will
continue to provide wildlife habitat.
• (2) Habitat management is not part of the reclamation plan for this project.
(1) Topsoil will be strategically stockpiled on the pit perimeters for replacement in the reclamation
phase. [f stockpiles are to remain in place For longer than one year, they will be seeded with an SCS
recommended seeding.
(2) There is little to no woody vegetation to be affected. The area has been primarily open grazing
land.
(3) Stockpiles will be configured to minimize erosion and located in areas where disturbances by
ongoing mining will be minimal. As stated in (1) above, if necessary, stockpiles will be seeded for
the purpose of stabilization.
(4) It is planned to locate topsoil stockpiles so material will only have to be handled one time. No
relocation of topsoil is proposed.
(5) Replaced topsoil on proposed lake shores will be treated so as to prevent any slippage zones.
(6) I[ is the applicant's opinion that topsoil present on site is adequate for sustaining vegetation as
is evidenced by the fact that it has been successfully used as irrigated farmland and rangeland
pasture. It is felt that there are no more suitable materials on site for reclamation.
