• the site. The southeast end of Area A is a dense scrub
community, however.
Lithic material is very sparsely distributed over
the site, which is very large i275m X 200 m). An inventory
sheet of observed artifacts, with artifacts from Areas A
and B, listed separately, is attached to the site form.
The observed material indicates a wide variety of activities
took place on the site, including cutting, scraping, core
reduction, biface reduction, tool finishing (pressure
flaking), and perhaps vegetable food preparation.
The diversity of the inferable activities indicates
this was utilized as a campsite; the sparsity of the mater-
ial and size of the site could argue against this. Per-
haps this site is a campsite, or just possibly a series of
limited activity sites located in the same general area.
The site was very intensively examined, since a Cody
Complex site lies just over a small saddle, and another site
• is just to the southeast. This examination was not extremely
productive. Archaeological material is more easily encoun-
tered in impacted areas, though even this was quite sparse.
No material was observed in arroyos. It is doubtful this
site would yield the kind of data that may exist in SRT139
and SRT142.
5RT146
This site is a historic structure adjacent to Site
SRT139 (Map 9). It is a rectangular hole excavated into
the north bank of the arroyo that runs through SRT139. Un-
shaped rectangular sandstone blocks were dry Laid to con=
struct walls on four sides. The walls have collapsed,
making it impossible to determine the presence or absence
of a roof.
Vegetation in front of the structure is more Lush
• than that in the immediate vicinity, though the vegetation
27
