Montgomery Gra~+el Operation
Shill Prevemion Control and Countermeasure Plan Pace 2
Basin A includes one 8,000 gallon tank to store diesel for the crushing equipment. The tank
is mounted on skids and has an earthen berm around it to capture 110% of the tank volume.
A frame-mounted, 500 gallon tank for gasoline is located neaz the diesel tank. There aze also
approximately twenty 55 gallon drums of oil stored on the site.
Basin B includes four storage tanks to support the asphalt batch plant. Two 10,000 gallon
tanks with asphalt oil, one 7,000 gallon tank with diesel, and one 3,700 gallon tank with burner
fuel aze set on a paved asphalt pad. The tanks are surrounded by a curb wall to contain 110%
of the storage volume. Basin B also includes aframe-mounted, 500 gallon tank to store
gasoline.
Although the perimeter berm is adequate to contain a fuel leak, each of the fuel AST's will be
contained in its own independent containment basin. These bermed basins maintain zero
discharge; therefore, each of the AST's has double secondary containment using its own
separate berm and the perimeter berm. All fuel storage and drum storage at the facility lies
' above the 100-yeaz floodplain, and each of the containment berms has capacity for 110% of
the largest vessel contained within the berm plus three inches of free boazd for rain or snow.
The two subbasins' associated AST's may be described as follows:
' Basin A:
Basin A is approximately 15.0 acres on the west half of the Montgomery Pit
' site and extends from the west property boundary to a hydraulic divide east of
Skillman Gulch. This basin generally drains to the north/northeast from the
west side of the Skillman Gulch and north/northwest on the east side of
Skillman Gulch. On the west side of Skillman Gulch is the active mining azea
' for this site. There are two above-ground fuel tanks and approximately twenty
55 gallon drums located in this basin on the west side of Skillman Gulch neaz
the mining azea. One of the AST's at this location is an 8,000 gallon diesel
fuel tank. The other AST is a 500 gallon capacity and stores gasoline. Fach
of these tanks is contained in its own bermed area. The 55 gallon drums
containing oil are stored in groups of 20 drums or less on separate containment
pads.
Basin B:
Basin B is approximately 25.4 acres on the east half of the Montgomery Pit site
' and drains generally to the north/northwest. The facility's concrete and asphalt
batches plant, and caretaker trailer aze located in this basin. Four AST's are
used at the asphalt plant and are located on an asphalt pad and contained within
' a curb wall collectively surrounding the tanks. The 500 gallon AST stores
gasoline and is contained in its own berm.
