<br />Mr. Berhan Keffelew <br />Page Two <br />CAMAS <br />3. At this time, Cooley Gravel Company has not developed a detailed engineering design of <br />a slurry wall for this particular site. At the time when engineered plans are required, they <br />will very closely resemble plans approved by both the DMG and the State Engineers <br />Office on file for our South Dahlia Pit (Permit No. M-89-066), Revision No. AM-001. <br />Therefore at this time, we will go ahead and revise Attachment "A" of our Deed of Trust <br />to reflect a bond increase to cover the liability of slurry wall construction. As I informed <br />you over the phone, the slurry wall will be approximately 13,000 L. F., 2 fl. W., and 16 <br />ft. D. We anticipate that bonding for this slurry wall will be based upon bonding for M- <br />89-066, AM-001 approved by the Board on October 26, 1992. That amendment allowed <br />for construction of a slurry wall of 13,200 L.F., 2ft. W., and 34 ft. D. The depth of this <br />proposed slurry wall is approximately one-half of that approved in the above-mentioned <br />amendment. The increase in bonding for that amendment was calculated at $116,505.00. <br />Therefore, requested bond increase for this slurry wall (File No. M-94-027) should be <br />approximately $58,000.00. Prior to any construction of a slurry wall at the Longmont <br />Operation, engineered plans will be sent to the DMG and the State Engineers Office for <br />approval. <br />4. a. The maximum rate of dewatering discharge will be 500 gpm. <br />b. Downgradient alluvial wells are determined to be those on the east side of Boulder <br />Creek, north and northwest. There are no permitted/decreed downgradient alluvial <br />wells from this applied-for mining permit. As is shown on the Water Features Map <br />(Part of Figure C-1, Premising Plan Map and revised on 7-1-94 and sent to you, and <br />attached), wells A'26 and x/27 are on the west side of Boulder Creek, a hydrologic <br />divide that separates our proposed operation from these wells. <br />c. The minimum setback from the approximate centerline of Boulder Creek for mining <br />is currently 120 feet. Please refer to Figure D-1, Mining Plan Map. Constructing a~ <br />berm along Boulder Creek would have no positive or negative effects on groundwater <br />reaching Boulder Creek. <br />5. A gravel well permit application has been sent to the State Engineer's Office for approval <br />along with a substitute supply plan on July 27, 1994 (see attached Exhibit "A"). Cooley <br />Gravel Company owns shares m the Smith & Emmons Ditch and is leasing effluent from <br />the City of Longmont to provide augmentation water for the plan. A copy of the approval <br />letter approving our plan will be forwarded to the DMG prior to any mining. <br />With regard to waivers, this issue will be determined along with approval or denial of our <br />substitute supply plan submitted to the State Engineers Office. The DMG has not received <br />any letters of opposition to this permit application from adjacent landowners, who are also <br />well owners. As mentioned above, two alluvial wells exist west of Boulder Creek, across <br />a hydrologic divide. The only well that could be impacted by our normal dry-mining <br />
