Mr. Berhan Keffelew
Page Three
CAMAS
method (without a slurry wall) would be Mr. Jay Groom's gravel-well permit immediately
adjacent to us on our east. We have had discussions with Mr. Groom regarding his gravel
lake and he is apparently comfortable with our commitrnents. However, to provide the
DMG with the proper backup, prior to mining on this permit application, we will provide
a signed copy of a similar agreement to the DMG with Mr. Groom as that attached
(Attachment "B"). This agreement has been approved by the DMG for Cooley Gravel
Company to use on two prior Permit amendments, including M-89-066. It is anticipated
that Mr. Groom will require water level monitoring of his lake prior to and during mining.
This will beagreed-to by Cooley Gravel Company if Mr. Groom requests it.
6. A revised Figure D-1, Mining Plan Map, is being submitted with this letter showing the
location of the three requested alluvial ground-water monitoring wells. The wells are
located 400 feet apart and cover the distance of the west side of Mr. Groom's lake. Five
quarters of water depth data will be forwarded to the DMG prior to the beginning of
mining. See response to No. 5 for an explanation of how we will mitigate any water loss
to Mr. Groom's lake. Five quarters of alluvial ground water monitoring should coincide
with normal annual lake level fluctuations of Mr. Groom's lake.
Due to a request by the Weld County Commissioners in our zoning approval for mining on June
15, 1994, a slight change in the location of the batch plants was required, which also
necessitated a slight change in phasing of the mine plan. These slight variations do not
substantially affect the previously submitted Figure D-1, Mining Plan Map. Please compare the
enclosed, revised Figure D-1 with the previously submitted Figure D-1; also, the text of Chapter
V., Exhibit D-Mining Plan, has been modified to reflect these slight modifications to phasing.
These responses should satisfy the Division's Adequacy Concerns of July 14, 1994. Please
contact me if you have further questions or concerns. Thank you for your attention to this
response, and we look forward to hearing from you soon with regard to approval of this permit.
Sincerely,
r,~-~~~~
Robert B.
