I

f9ined Land Reclamation Board.
Impact of Mining and Reclamation
Presently, Flatiron Paving Company is mining by dry operation
which requires dewatering prior to stripping and crushing. The
dewatering trench encompasses the operation and completely de-
waters the area inside the trench. The water table is lowered
throughout the property and outside the boundary of the mining
' operation. Previous mining operations will result in 18 acres
of open surface water on the property following reclamation.
I Water use under future conditions will be 45 acre-feet annually.
The evaporation of water from the lakes will reduce stream
I flows. Because of the proximity of the operation to the river,
the reduction in stream flows will occur at approximately the
same time as evaporation will occur.
Mitigation of Mining and Reclamation Impacts
The 18-acre lake that exists on the mining site and will be
present after reclamation was created by mining operations
prior to 1976. Because the open water surface was created
prior to the enactment of the present Mined Land Reclamation
Board water requirements, no mitigation measures are proposed
I to reduce the evaporation losses from the lake. To ensure that
ground water levels are kept far enough beneath the land surface
to reduce the potential of sub-irrigation, an outlet drain from
the lake to the river will be constructed at the eastern part of
C-6
