Eller, Sr.
3601 County Road 19
Florence, Colorado 81226
Dear Mr. Eller.
At your request, I visited a property that you own along County Road 19 southeast of
Florence, Colorado, to examine several gravel exploration pits that had been dug there. I
made the trip on April• 14, 2005, several days after the pits were dug. The parcel of tend
is located in Section 2, Township 20 South, Range 69 West, Fremont County, Colorado.
The attached serial photo, map and digital photos show the location of the property, the
pits and the material that was excavated from them.
The pits were dug initially with a rabbets tired backhoe, and then deepened with a larger
trackhoe. The depth of the excavaticros combined with the spacing across the property
allow for a reasonable sub-sruface evaluation of the graveUcwbble wne. A brief (~
destaiption of Y}~ pits and the lithology of the material follows: ~
. • Pit !: In southeastean quadrant of aces; depth io water appmximately 13 feet; 84 ., ~ `) .,
~~ inures of uncaffio&dated material above graveVcobble zone-cotposed of 32 '` T- } '.
i of A borizon soil anc152 inches of clay subsoil; gcavellcobble zone - '
aoasistent a~ evenly distributcd from bottom of subsoil layer to water level; top ~ l'~7
~~ size of material approximately 12 inch; some iron stain in material. ,
• Pit 2: In southvvestetn quadrant of area; depth to water approximately 14 feet in ~ 7
1 ~ ~' trench; 83 inches of uncortigotidated material above main gravel/cobble zone- ~-
composed of 16 inches of A horizon soil, 20 inches of clay subsoil, 12 inches of a -"~ I ~
gravel rider seam, and 35 inches of sandy material; remainder of material evenly ~ , ~
distributed gravel and cobble, top size generglly l2 inches, with slightly more
fines than pit 1.
• Pit 3: In east-central potiion of arp; depth to water approximately 13 feet in _~
~ r trench; l2 inches of A horizon soil, then transitions directly to graveVcabbie zone;
localized pocket of sandy material on east side of trench; graveUcobble size ~
distribution consistent with other pits. -'
