Lorenciro Canyon ,Nine Contour Cu/s CuGurol Resavices
portion of the site. However, the impact seems fairly minimal. There is no direct indication of
soil depth or presence of buried cultural remains. It is likely that there are shallowly buried
remains in the flat area on the east side of the site. Testing is recommended to determine if
buried cultural remains are present and to aid determination of eligibility for [he NRHP. The site
is considered a contributing resource for the proposed LCRHL. This site is an excellent
candidate for the district because of its high incidence of ground stone artifacts. Thus it can help
to inform on the intensity and means of processing plant resources, pinion and acorns, directly
applicable to the theme of the district. In addition, the lithic concentration may aid in identifying
less directly associated activities accompanying the procurement and processing of these
resources.
5LA9579
This site is located on the west side of asouth-facing bench overlooking Little Jeff Canyon. The
site consists of 16 felsite flakes in an area l2 x 12.5 meters. The site probably represents a single
episode of lithic reduction. The site is considered not eligible for the NRHP. The site is also
considered anon-contributing element to the proposed LCRHL. The site is unlikely to yield
information important to our understanding of the prehistory of the area. It also does not reflect
activities that directly relate to the theme of the proposed district.
5LA9603
This site is a small, dispersed surface scatter of felsite debitage and one felsite biface fragment
• on a small grassy bench overlooking Little Jeff Canyon to the west. Most of the debitage is a
pale gray felsite that appears to be typical of locally occurring intrusive, but a few pieces are a
darker intermediate or basaltic intrusive. No cultural features or discrete activity areas were
identified. The site is considered not eligible for the NRHP. The site is unlikely to yield
information important to our understanding of the prehistory of the area. It also doe not reflect
activities that directly relate to the theme of the proposed LCRHL.
Isolated Finds
5LA 9560
An isolated find found on a steep north-facing slope overlooking the Purgatoire River valley.
The find is a basalt, corner-notched, projectile point. The tip is missing and end of both tangs. It
measures 40 mm long, 31 mm wide at the tangs, and 18 mm wide at the base. It dates to the Late
Archaic to Late Prehistoric, Ceramic Stage (ca. 3000-500 B.P.). Isolated finds are considered not
eligible for the NRHP.

Corunnr('nhC'ulRe~-RPT(J~S1Revl/Apri/.'~', 100/ I3
