Banks and Gesso, LLC
Incidental Products
It is not anticipated that there will be any incidental products as a result of this proposed
mining operation.
Explosives and Chemicals
Explosives will not be used at this operation.
All material mined and processed does not proceed through any chemical treatment,
therefore there are no "tailings" that need to be disposed. Earthen materials that cannot
be sold as a product will be used in reclamation
Dewatering
The operator plans to dewater when groundwater is encountered. Preliminary data
indicate that a significant portion of the deposit resides in an alluvial groundwater
aquifer, with the water table encountered at a depth below the existing ground surface
ranging from 5 to 15 feet.
Pumps will feed temporary trenches or pipes, running from the active mining area to the
freshwater pond, a basin area to combine stormwater functions with clarification of
pumped water. The mining area will typically be dewatered by a trench, which will be
partially cut around the perimeter of the pit. All water generated from the dewatering
operation will either be used as part of the operation or discharged back into Fountain
Creek. Except for diversion of some water, as permitted by law under a Temporary
Substitute Supply Plan or other decree, all collected waters will be discharged to
Fountain Creek at a common outlet. Water that is discharged into Fountain Creek will
meet the standards established in Lafarge's CDPS permit.
Based on plans to sequence mining and move overburden into backfill areas
immediately, it is estimated that dewatering will be limited to approximately 30 acres at
any one time. Once the water table has been lowered or dewatering results in a
sufficiently dry alluvium, front-end loaders will excavate the material and deposit it into
feeders and convey it to the plant area.
Sundance Santl and Gravel Resource 06015
Lafarge West, Inc. 11 September 2006
