previously listed uses as well as mixed forest
• land, residential,, commercial and services,
cropland and pasture, and other agricultural
land.
General Mine Narrative Surface mining began at the Edna Mine in the
late 1940s. This permit covers final
reclamation of the Edna Mine.
Blasting Using an inventory of nearby structures,
explosive weights for shots were kept within the
ground motion and air blast limits. Appropriate
records are kept.
Overburden Removal Overburden removal was accomplished using the
primary stripping machine, a 90-cubic-yard
dragline, and secondary stripping equipment,
backhoes, scrapers and trucks. Standard methods
were used and box cuts and final pits were done
in a way that minimized excess spoil.
• Backfilling and Grading Since no acid-forming or toxic-forming materials
were present, no special handling was done
during backfilling. Grading has been performed
to establish terrain that approximates the
premining contours.
Roads Cross sections of typical roads and profiles of
all roads, except light use roads, to be
retained after mining are included. The
profiles also show culvert locations and the
culvert design calculations are included.
Facilities The Edna Mine facilities were already in place,
as were several of the powerlines, roads and
sedimentation ponds. Many of these facilities
were built under the interim regulations and so
conform to the design criteria in effect at that
time. Facilities retained to support the
• postmining landuse are described.
Renewal-3 1.0-4 June 13, 1997
