SW'/+ of section 4 T.30N., <br />R,99W in Fremont County, Wyoming. <br />Range in Chazacteristics: The 10- to 40-inch control section is loam <br />stratified with lenses of verq fine sandy loam, silt loam, and clay loam. <br />It averages 18 to 35 percent clay and 5 to 20 percent rock fragments. <br />The A horizon has hue of 2.5Y or lOYR, value of 3 through 5 dry, 2 or 3 <br />moist, and chroma of 1 through 3. The C horizon has hue of 2.5Y <br />through 7.SYR. <br />Competing Series: These aze the Canninger, Conda, and Novary series. <br />All these soils are calcareous. Also, Canninger soils have mean annual <br />summer soil temperatures of 59°F or above. <br />• Geographic Setting: Silas soils aze on mountain valley fills. Elevation is <br />8,000 to over 11,000 feet. Mean annual precipitation is about 12 to 20 <br />inches, while the mean annual air temperature is about 35°F. Mean <br />annual soil temperature is about 32° to 44°F. The mean soil summer soil <br />temperature is about 50° to 57°F. <br />Drainage and Permeability: These soils aze somewhat poorly drained <br />with slow to medium runoff and moderate permeability. <br />Use and Vegetation: These soils are mainly used for range. Some areas <br />aze used for pasture and hay production. Native vegetation is bluegrass, <br />sedges, quaking aspen, rose bushes, and forbs. <br />Distribution and Extent: The soil is moderately extensive in the <br />mountainous azeas of Wyoming. <br />• <br />I-39 <br />
