(3 to 6 inches thick)
Cca 22 to 60 inches; light brown (T.SYR6/3), brown or dazk-brown
(T.SYR4/3) moist; very gravelly loam; massive; slightly hazd dry,
very friable moist; approximately 70 percent of the horizon is
gravel and cobble; this is a weak ca horizon with visible calcium
cazbonate occurring as concretions, in thin seams and streaks, and
as coatings on the underside of rock and gravel fragments;
calcareous; pH 8.0. (Several feet thick)
•
Type Location: These soils are located approximately 1,320 feet east
and 660 feet north of the southwest corner of section 24, T.23 N.,
R. 120 W, in Lincoln County, Wyoming.
Range in Chazacteristics: Color of the A horizon ranges in hue from
lOYR to T.SYR, in chroma from I.5 to 3, and in value from 4.5 to 5.5 dry
and 2 to 3 moist. Color of the B2 horizon may range in hue from 7.5YR
to 5YR, in chroma from 2 to 4, and in value from 5 to 6 dry and 3 to 4
moist. Hue of the Cca horizon ranges from 7:5YR to 5YR. Reaction of
the A and B2 horizons range from pH 6.8 to pH 7.6, whi]e that of the Cca
horizon ranges from pH 7.8 to pH 8.4. Calcium cazbonate equivalent of
the Cca horizon ranges from approximately 5 to 12 percent. The B2
horizon of these soils must be redder in hue, brighter in chroma, have
moderate degrees of structure, or evidence of clay movement of the
translocation of carbonates. Texture of the B2 horizon is typically a
•
I-29
