eh ESPEY, HUSTON 6 ASSOCIATES, INC. <br />U <br />Competing Series: Blazon soils aze similar to the Moyerson, Dollard, and <br />Rentsac soils. Moyerson soils are finer textured. Dollard soils aze <br />moderately deep over shale bedrock; Rentsac soils are loamy skeletal <br />and derived from sandstone. <br />Geographic Setting: Blazon soils aze found on foothill sideslopes and <br />ridges. Mean annual precipitation is about 13 to 16 inches and mean <br />annual air temperature is 43°F. <br />3.1.3 The Barnette Series <br />Barnette Series aze deep soils which have formed in material weathered <br />from fine-textured shale and thin strata of interbedded sandstone. <br />Typically, the upper surface layer is grayish brown, non-calcazeous, loam <br />• about 5 inches thick. The lower surface layer is grayish brown, non-calcazeous, clay <br />loam about 5 inches (13 centimeters) thick. The upper subsoil layer is brown, <br />non-calcareous, clay about 12 inches (30 centimeters) thick. The major subsoil layer <br />is yellowish brown, non-calcazeous, clay about 8 inches (20 centimeters) thick. The <br />lower subsoil layer is light brownish gray, calcazeous, clay about 8 inches <br />(20 centimeters) thick. The upper substratum is light brownish gray strongly <br />calcareous clay about 11 inches (28 centimeters) thick. This is underlain by highly <br />weathered calcazeous shale with thin strata of interbedded sandstone that extends <br />to depths greater than 60 inches (152 centimeters). <br />Taxonomic Class: The Barnette soils aze fine, moat morillontic Argic <br />Pachic Cryoborolls. <br />Typical Pedon: Barnette soils consist of loam and native sod. (Colors <br />aze for dry soil unless otherwise noted.) <br />• <br />I-8 <br />
