The next phase after removal of the vegetation and topsoil is the extraction of the resource (sand and gravel), which will be accomplished with front-end loaders, dozers, scrapers, backhoe excavators, draglines, or any surface mining type of equipment that is economically feasible for this site. As explained above, this is an open pit surface mine, and mining and construction equipment design for this task will be used for earthmoving and transporting both on site and trucking off site. All earthmoving will be done with machinery designed for the job, e.g. Dozer, front-end loaders, scrapers, excavators, etc. No water diversions or impoundments are planned for this project. The size of maximum disturbance will be approximately 9.5 acres at any one time, and will consist of a combination of mining, processing, stockpiling and reclamation. Mining will be done on a continuing program every year as the demand warrants. Therefore, an approximate timetable is that as project in the area need materials, mining will occur. The various stages or phases of the operation will be dictated by market demand. This mine will not be a phased operation, but will be based on a floating bond of 9.5 acres affected any one time. As mining progresses, reclamation will follow. After an area is mined, the backsloping and contouring of the side walls and pit floor will be done, and topsoil spread for seedbed preparation, and as weather permits, planting will be done. All of the reclamation will be accomplished in a timely manner in order to establish the vegetation, and allow the operator/applicant to open more of the pit area for extraction, and maintain the affected area. It is estimated that the size of the excavated area will be 5 acres at any given time, and that the remaining 4.5 acres will be devoted to product stockpile, topsoil stockpile, and all the related processing equipment, which will include portable crushing, and screening plants. This will account for the 9.5 acre floating bond. Sequencing the events of the mining operation are as the market demands, and it is not feasible to predict with any accuracy at this time, however, as stated above the plan is well thought out and will be done in manner to facilitate reclamation. The life of this mine will be over 5 years.
