Section 779.20 (c) Continued.
• Calculation of species diversity were based on Shannon and Weaver
(1963). Computational equations were as follows:
Species Diversity (d)
d - s ni log2 ni
1 N N
Where: ni =number of individuals per taxon
N = total number of organisms per sample
Maximum Diversity (dmax)
dmax = log2 S
Where: S =number of species
•
Equitability (E)
E _ d
dmax
Where: d =observed species diversity
d =calculated maximum diversity
Fish were sampled by backpack electroshocker at lower Foidel Creek
and lower Fish Creek, Suly 6, 1979. A Colfelt Model BPI-C backpack
unit, powered by a one horsepower gasoline engine was utilized.
Due to the narrowness of the channel and abundance of American
eelgrass, seining was not attempted in lower Foidel Creek. Seining
was also not attempted in lower Fish Creek as the efficiency of
electrofishing was considered sufficient. Furthermore, clearness
of the water at this station indicated the absence of schools of
• f ish.
779-146
