EXHIBIT E - Reclamation P1a~Cont)

only plan suitable for the area. A vegetation plan designed for range, recreational
purposes, or other land usage would be impractical. Also, an alternate plan would
not be consistent with present land use policy of the area. Another reason for re-
storation to forest habitat as the only vegetation plan is the invasion of. inactive
tailings ponds by pioneer .communities (grasses and shrubs). This fact demonstrates
the feasibility of reclaiming the affected lands to forest habitat in contrast to
an alternative vegetative habitat, foreign to the vicinity.
The affected lands to be reclaimed to forest habitat through revegetation are
divided into four working sites. These sites and their acreages are:
1. Tailings slopes )
) 96 acres
2. Tailings pond areas )
The maximum slope of the existing inactive Tailings Ponds No.. 1, No. 2
and No. 3 are in the range of 1:1 to 2:1. Grading or altering of these
slopes is not under consideration at this time. This is due to the
impracticality of employing machinery to do work on these slopes. The
maximum anticipated slope of Tailings Pond No. 4 currently icy use is
2.5:1. The slope of this pond is also not expected to be altered for
reasons stated above. These are the 'only affected areas where the
slope has been changed from the existing topography..
3. Borrow and construction sites 27 acres
4. Mine and mill sites 9 acres
The tailings slopes and pond areas are the only affected lands to be reclaimed
according to the entire revegetation program. Borrow, construction areas, and the
mine and mill sites are lands comprised of natural soils. Consequently, they do not
require the stabilization phase of this revegetation program. The tailing:; slopes
and pond areas can be subdivided into four main tailings deposition sites previously
or currently being used: Tailings Pond No. 1, totaling 30 acres; Tailings Pond No. 2,
totaling 21 acres; and Tailings Pond No. 3, totaling 4.5 acres. These are~.s are pre-
sently inactive and in the process of being reclaimed.l Tailings Pond No. 4, which
will comprise an area of 39 acres, is currently being used for tailings deposition.
The expected life of this pond is twenty years. Reclamation of this pond will begin
before abandonment, however, and proceed with the growth of the pond.
1Tailings Pond No. 3 is being used as an emergency dump pond, hence it is periodically
in use for a short time.
-15-
