The rail spur will connect the coal loadout to the <br />• proposed power plant to be located approximately eight miles <br />north of Mack, Colorado. <br />2.3.5 Ponds and Impoundments <br />Fresh Water Ponds <br />Fresh water required for operation of the mine shall be con- <br />tained by two ponds at the central facilities area (for location, <br />see Figure 2.2-25). ~acR ~1 sh~~l have a capacity of 750,000 <br />gallons with a total combined capacity of 1.5 million gallons. <br />Two fresh water ponds shall be constructed so that accumulated <br />sediment may be periodically cleaned by emptying only one pond <br />so as not to affect the overall mine operation. <br />The ponds shall be excavated to an approximate bottom elevation <br />of 5,313.50' with sideslopes no steeper than 2H:1V and 2H;1V <br />for the outslope. The outer embankment shall have a minimum <br />top width of 12 feet with a 15 foot wide embankment between <br />• the two ponds. The maximum depth of water shall be 14 feet <br />with 2 feet of freeboard added for a total depth of 16 feet <br />for each pond. <br />`Total excavation required for.~he •¢~esh water ponds shall be <br />11,370 bank cubic yards which includes 3,730 bank cubic yards <br />of topsoil and 7,640 bank cubic yards of excess material. <br />Excavation of the ponds shall be to the elevations and grades <br />which will allow for the installation of an impermeable liner. <br />Embankment required for the two porxls shall consist of approxi- <br />mately $,955 bank cubic yards, including 1,225 bank cubic yards <br />of material used~to cover and protect the liner. <br />Each pond shall have an impermeable liner in order to eliminate <br />water loss to groundwater and to prevent water pollution of <br />groundwater. The fabricated liner shall have a minimum 6" <br />cover of sifted earth on the bottom and sideslopes of the ponds <br />. for liner protection. The resulting bottom elevation of the <br />
