Mr. Steve Shuey
Division of Minerals & Geology
Durango Field Office
May 1 S, 1995
Page 2
During periods of temporary cessation any chemical containers, with the exception of fuel tanks,
will be removed from the site. The site will be inspected prior to leaving, to determine the need
for any additional erosion prevention measures beyond those stipulated in the Stormwater
Management Plan (SWMP). The site will be inspected again prior to returning for active mining,
to assess any damages to any sediment or erosion control structures and determine the need for
additional structures or preventive methods. Based on the inspection, the operator will take
appropriate measures, based on the SWMP, to stop any problems and mitigate any potential areas
of concern.
If operations at the site are stopped for reasons other than the winter season, the same beginning
and end inspections will occur, with the addition of inspections on a monthly basis, to assure that
there is no environmental degradation occurring. All exposed slopes will be stabilized prior to
leaving the site.
As requested, the azea occupied by the hydropower conduit within the permit boundary that will
not be disturbed by the actual mining of the site is indicated on Exhibits C1 and C2. The
applicant is awaze that when an agreement is reached with the hydropower conduit owner and
mining of that azea is allowed by the owner, an amendment to the existing permit will be .
required. Such an amendment will be sought prior to mining of the area occupied by the
hydropower conduit.
Structures and Best Management Practices (BMPs) used to control sediment loss from the site
are addressed and explained in the Stormwater Management Plan (SWMP) required as a
condition of applying for a Stormwater Dischazge Permit. The SWMP is incorporated into the
permit application materials by this reference. A copy of this plan is included with this letter.
The sediment control structures, however, will not be permanent site features and will be
removed upon completion of activities at this site. Therefore, they are not shown on the
reclamation plan map.
The applicant may in the future have the need for wash facilities. If they are needed, a Technical
Revision to the permit will be requested and the design and information of the proposed wash
facilities will be submitted to the Division prior to the construction of such facilities. It is not
known yet whether wash facilities will be used at this site and the design and details of such aze
unwarranted at this point.
Spill contairiment information for any hazazdous materials stored on-site is included in the
Stormwater Management Plan.
