• D.5.3 Rock Mechanics and Subsidence Monitoring
dock mechanics data specific to the site are currently being developed.
This information will be supplied under separate cover.
In the unlikely event that subsidence should occur, any surface expression
of subsidence will be monitored. Details of the monitoring program will
also be forthcoming under separate cover.
D.5.4 Erosion Control
The total disturbed area associated with the Pilot Plant operations is 13.9
acres. Of this total, 7.9 acres represent the evaporation ponds, 2.4 acres
represent the well field, 2.4 acres represent the topsoil stockpiles, and
the remaining 1.2 acres are associated with the plant site. The plant site
area will be leveled, and parking areas will be graveled. Drainage control
• ditches, as shown on figure D-1, will be constructed to divert precipitation
runoff from undisturbed areas to the dry drainage. Precipitation runoff
from disturbed areas +3nd the plant site will be intercepted by ditches, and
will be directed to the retention pond for desiltation and subsequent
discharge to the dry drainage. Any disturbed slopes steeper than 30 percent
will be stabilized with water bars and contour furrowing. Topsoil storage
piles will be seeded to protect against erosion (see Exhibit E).
Erosion control measures such as water bars, culverts, windrowing, and
contour furrowing will be utilized, as required, to control erosion along
the plant access road. Cut and fill areas will be contoured, seeded, and
mulched to minimize Erosion. Ditches along the road will be constructed
with energy absorbers to regulate flow velocity and prevent excessive
erosion. Rock rip-rap will be installed at the culvert out-falls to
dissipate energy and prevent erosion.
D.5.5 fugitive Dust Control
• The only source of fugitive dust associated with the operation of the Pilot
Plant relates to vehicle traffic induced emissions. The access road and the
D-14
