• use and disturbances associated with the Mt. Harris permit area, the
present potential productivity of the site is extremely low.
Hydrologic Capability
Limited surface water supplies are present in the permit area; however,
the Yampa River is in close proximity to the permit area and the major
surface drainage of Northwest Colorado.
The permit area is located on alluvial material above the actual
elevation of the Yampa River. Domestic wells in the general area
penetrate the alluvial material found in the Yampa P.iver valley and are
used for livestock and domestic water supply.
Capability of the Land to Support a Variety of l's es
Due to the limited size of the permit area and its location adjacent to
• a railroad siding, the capability of the land to support a variety of
different future uses is severely limited. The site will probably be
used in the future as an industrial site, even following the use by Mt.
Harris Coal Company. The small size of the site precludes use by
recreational functions. Some rangeland use may be possible; however,
after operations of Mt. Harris are complete, the land will probably
continue to be utilized for industrial use.
Previous Surface and Underground Operation
No previous underground operation activity was carried out in the Mt.
Harris permit area. However, general and adjacent lands to the
southeast and north have been extensively mined by bath surface and
underground methods.
r1
2.04.3-2
