• completion in January or February, 1982. The facility has been running at <br />excess of 759 capacity since 1978 end the addition will help to alleviate <br />a potential overcrowding problem. Four other facilities in the region, <br />one in Montrose and three in Grand Junction, provide secondary care <br />support for the area. Delta County Memorial Hospital hne an active <br />medical staff of 17 physicians, fourteen of whom reside in Delta County. <br />In total, Delta County has fifteen practicing physicians, the majority of <br />whom reside in Delta City and are general practice physicians. Support in <br />specialty areas such as Obstetrics or Pediatrics comes from either <br />Montrose or Grand Junction. In addition, ten dentists practice in Delta <br />County -four in Delta City, three in Paonia, two in Cedaredge, and one in <br />Hotchkiss. <br />In terms of health facilities in the North Fork Valley, the only supplier <br />of services is the North Fork Medical Clinic, which operates on a full- <br />time basis in Paonia and on a part-time basis in Hotchkiss. The facility <br />is staffed by three physicians. <br />• There are currently three long-term care facilities in Delta County (two <br />in Delta and one in Cory). These facilities have a combined complement of <br />249 beds. <br />In terms of emergency medical services, there exist three ambulance <br />services in Delta County located in Delta City, Cedaredge, and Paonia. <br />Each system has two vehicles and good equipment. The Delta system is <br />funded by City and County funds, retains two full-time employees and also <br />utilizes volunteers with Emergency Medical Training (EMT). The Cedaredge <br />and Paonia systems each have two vehicles. The systems are funded through <br />a subscription service and fees for runs. These systems are operated by <br />volunteer EMT's. In total, there are approximately 28 EMT's in Delta <br />County. The two potential problems with the emergency services are <br />finding a sufficient pool of volunteers for operation and the <br />communication problems which affect all public safety groups. In <br />addition, the Delte County Memorial Hospital also operates an ambulance <br />• service. <br />25 <br />
